Is California REALLY that desperate for money?

Apparently.

Today, we received a letter in the mail from the city of Lancaster.
If certain things aren't fixed, we could possibly earn a citation of up to $500.

Our crimes?

Crime #1: Our trash containers are stored within public view. (On the back corner of our driveway).

Crime #2: Our property contains unmaintained landscaping. (Weeds).

WHAT??!!

They were even kind enough to include in the notice pictures of our trash cans AND our weeds. You know, just in case we had no clue what they were talking about. Believe me when I say that our weeds are VERY minimal. I have seen worse in my day. MUCH worse.

We have until tomorrow to remove our trash cans from public view and to pull our weeds.

Needless to say, our trash cans are now in our BACK YARD, and I have developed a slight blister on my thumb as a result of pulling weeds.

California has major issues.

Enough said.

Seriously?!?!? Wow. I wonder if they pay people to just wander residential neighborhoods, taking pictures of people's "crimes". That's something I'd expect an HOA to have a fit over, certainly not the state government!

WOW! I can't believe that! And the fact that they only gave you a day or so to fix the problem. I would call the city to see what's up with that. That doesn't seem right. Is there some kind of neighborhood rule about this? That maybe they went to the city to take care of instead of themselves? On my street there are a few houses that put their garbage can on the side of their garage, visible from the street. And one house that has nothing but weeds in their front yard.
At any rate, I'm sorry you had to pull all those weeds!

That's just absolutely ridiculous. There are some houses next to my MIL's house in Lancaster that look like total dumpsters, not to mention garbage bags sitting right on driveway and dried out front lawns, why no one ever does something about that?! Those people are unacceptable! Sorry about all you have to put up with.

Ugh, I'm sorry Andrea. If it makes you feel any better, Vegas is the same way! We once got a $200 fine for having a dead spot in our lawn the size of a small dinner plate. And we only had that problem because our drunk neighbor backed his car over our sprinkler head and broke it. Nice. They need a new job.

Hey Andrea, yah, I hear ya....... we got the same exact letter. It was a bit depressing. And a part of me felt like my rights were being torn away from me.
It's not like I want to have weeds, and it's not like I don't like having a nice neighborhood it's just, HELLO! I bought this house and if I can't get to the weeds right away than well.......
And just for the record, I did try to get rid of my weeds but apparently my weed killer is a liar and weaksauce!

Also, if I put my trash cans hidden behind our cars in the paved driveway so I don't have to travel through the dirt to put trash away (not to mention DRAG them through the dirt AND ROCKS to get them out every Thursday night) than that is what I should be allowed to do. Are trash cans really a $500 eye sore? I.... don't think so. I'm just sayin'....
I seriously can't help but feel kind of sad that I don't have the right to put my trash can (that I have to pay to have) where it's more convenient for me and my family.

Ah, there, now I feel a little better.... (actually I don't) I still feel a little upset that there is a tree in my front yard I am not allowed to touch because it's technically not mine.... I understand their idea behind it, but still, something about that just doesn't sit well with me. It just doesn't feel right.
Does it to you?

There, enough of my childish fit throwing. I am sorry about that! I hope your thumbs get better soon!! And wow, I didn't realize I was so bothered by all of this. Ooops:)
